Need front brakes at 35k. Brakes aren covered anymore?
Does anyone know if brakes are still covered if I have a cert 2007 S8 with 35k miles? I will need front pads. they say I have to do rotors at the same time? I do have audicare maintenance. anyone know how much the front brakes run?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Not covered, and they'll likely cost you about a $grand with new rotors. Sometimes your local dealer will send out service coupons at 10-15% off- keep an eye out for one and hold it until you need your brakejob.

Or perhaps you're being conned into having to buy rotors. Search for a previous post of mine with the rotor wear limits.

I'd doubt that you need new rotors - you should be able to get away with just pads unless you have really high wear.... typical stealership trick...
There are some options for drilled /slotted rotors if you were so inclined - they turn out to be just OEM's with the extra stuff done afterwards.... acceptable for all but track use I'd think.
www.brakeworld.com has a few options. EBC has decent pads I think.... perhaps check MP4.2+6.0's posts/ links in his signature on the brakes...
Cheers~

I'm jealous you got 35k out of your pads+rotors. Have seen multiple reports of C6 S6 owners who had to replace front <20k or, like myself ('07 S6), front and back pads+rotors at 23k. More city than highway driving exacerbates matters; big heavy car, perhaps also could draw conclusion regarding driving styles of this ownership demographic, ahem.
I got mine done at an independent, $100s less than the dealership...

I had to have my front and rear replaced at 41k this past spring. It cost me $1600+ at the dealership. I can't find any independant shop around where I live (North Alabama) that would touch it.

For fronts, definitely wait for the indicator light. Otherwise you are wasting money. For rears, check the pads when (if) you rotate your tires. You can inspect the pads with most wheels installed. Outer pads are easy, inners can be a PITA.

Agreed on all fronts
From the rotor wear I have seen on the 6.0, and on the 4.2 A6 I have in the same general weight class as the 4.2 A8's, I would guestimate rotor wear down to minimum spec. at 75-90K miles; certainly not < 50K at all.

On your original question...
yes Audi covered brakes once upon a time, but not for ages now--you would have to go back to the D1/C3 (mid/late 80's) for when they were covered. Brakes and wipers were among the first things Audi cut back on to decrease warranty service cost.
