New Member, Navigation MMI question
Hey everybody! Just signed up, brief bio, I'm a general German indie mechanic, worked for Audi breifly in 2006, BMW in 2007 and 2008, Mercedes 2012 and 2013 (all other times spent as German indie) and I am always coming across the craziest problems, so Im hoping someone else on here might have some better information for me 2006 Audi A8L NO MAP on navigation screen. If I zoom all the way out I can kind of see the edge of a map off to the left (present problem). Originally customer complained navigation showed them in the ocean (I live in Miami). Replaced the GPS antenna and now the screen is showing like that. Any ideas are very appreciated.

Check how many satellites your navigation's acquiring.
Go to the navigation information (NAV-INFO) - the lower left button on the MMI. Watch this video and go to the end where it shows 4 satellites. In order for navigation to pin point the exact location, it does need at least 4-6 satellites.
Cheers,
Louis

Agree with what Louis says.
You can also check signal levels in VCDS.
It is possible the IF amp is marginal or bad, possibly due to water incursion, but more likely age.

Yes, sounds antenna related. On yet older first gen Audi Nav systems (the old self contained CD based one) as well as on my boat Garmin, sometimes manually moving the cursor on the map to near where you actually are helps it "find itself" again. Jakematic's post also reminds me about the antenna amp that is up in the rear of the roof (in the center of the upper back window trim if I remember right--just held in with plastic snap in clips). Could be there, or a broken or corroded connector somewhere. When I dealt with it in some self contained units, I would always first check those, disconnect and reconnect them, etc.
Also of course try the three button MMI reset to see if forcing a start/do over gets its senses back in sync.
