Observations here in Shanghai
Haven't been here for business in about 9 months, which is a long stretch for me.
Have just seen my first W221 S-class here, and in low light conditions, I'd have to say it doesn't look too offensive, but then again, it is black in colour! The trunk treatment is not as noticeable nor awkward as the E60/61 7-series, but the wheel arches look a bit bizarre. The front end of the car is arguably the best perspective, and the just released S65 AMG looks brutally pretty with its front end treatment.
The Audi continues to be a big seller here, and the stretched A6 sold here is very odd looking. I've seen a few D3 A8 & A8Ls, all chauffeur driven and all driven like maniacs down the wrong side of the road and such; 'tis traffic in Shanghai I suppose.
Strangely, there are a number of Porsche Cayennes here! Even saw a Turbo, which is wasted in Shanghai traffic of course.
Audi also runs a large number of radio and print ads here, mostly for the B7 A4 2.0...though unfortunately, the streets are still clogged with the old VW Santanas, rebadged VW Fox from the early '80s if I remember correctly!
