Oil leak mystery

May be differential leaking at output shaft seal. Common issue with transmission in the year. Same thing happened on my RS6 at about 100,000 miles. It's red fluid.

Anyone have photo of seal location for my next exploration? Where is fill point for differential? Going to drive a week and check again.

Anyone have photo of fill point for differential?
Also need to know what type of fluid it uses. Since it might have leaked
need to check level and watch for for leaks?

Default Oil Leak

Well cleaned everything off and put on 1000 miles. No leak, everything stayed clean??? Someone suggested front differential! My return trip when it leaked was from Denver on I-80 so I was up at elevation 9000ft at some point? Noticed on attached photo there is an overflow? Anyone know for sure if this is open and not sealed? Only has leaked on one 500 mile trip and than nothing? Roger

Default overflow

it musted be the overflow.
if it didn't leak climbing to 9000 feet it means is not boiling.
it probably was overfilled.
check the blue plug on top of transmission

Of course. It was just a little poke.

If it is ATF it shouldn't be red. If it is middle differential oil there is a possibility that breather (similar to that blue one at the gearbox) is blocked and that under long highway speeds pressure build up and squeezed some oil out trough the seal. Now stopped because it is not under that much stress.

"Repairing" cars online is not that easy task.
