Default Picked up a new D3!

Hey Guys I came across a beautifully maintained A8 that I couldn't pass up.

Its a 06 SWB with 70k. The guy kept it in really great condition, the interior is MINT and its pretty loaded!

The only thing that needs fixing is the trunk, It has trouble going up on its own (but it closes fine though). I need to figure out what the issue is.

Loving the car so far

Wow, looks really clean! Congrats! Re: trunk, that's a common failure point.

Congrats on the d3
I would try the struts first.
Usually with the motor open and close are a problem.
Also the little launch springs each side of the trunk lid.
Heaps written about the problem recently.

Nice looking car. Only way to truly fix the trunk is with the upgraded more powerful motor. The original design the electromagnetic clutch in the mechanism wears out. All other "remedies" are short lived stop gaps that just delay the inevitable.

Trust me on this, I tried literally everything before finding a used upgraded unit on eBay and its operated flawlessly since.

Yes upgrade the motor I did but it still did open properly because of the struts not doing there job. Note two model struts one powered trunk one for non

Default Nice find... I found mine in Bel Air 3 years ago, about the trunk motor

if your trunk motor's behaving like mine in the video, don't waste money on struts, buy a new motor or get the springs. I bought 2 struts from this forum recommendation and they're still in my garage, that was 2 years ago.
I've done many things with my cars and I documented in my signature, you may find them useful sometimes.

Cheers,

Louis

I've actually come across your website before, Very informative!

The last owner said he replaced the struts with no luck so I'm hoping I can get it to work with the springs.

Default Someone here just bought a D3 and asked me for a set

of springs. I found 2 in my cabinet. I'll go to the post office this week sometimes, if you want the last set, PM me your name and address, I'll send it the same time with the other.

Cheers,

Louis
