Default Pot Hole Disaster

So, driving home last night I hit a really deep pot hole and got a sidewall bubble on the front and rear passenger side tires. Did some research and the conclusion is they must be replaced. This is a total bummer as the tires are practically new. So here's the question... I'm running 19" Michelin Pilot Sport A/S right now. They're the original version....not the PLUS version. If I buy two of the PLUS version and put them on the rear axle, will I be OK running the two PLUS and two Original ?? concerned about quattro and possible transmission problems since they are not exactly the same tires. would like to avoid buying four new tires...

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

thanks. ...what a bad weekend for me.

Not sure if you can find the data on a Michelin website or not, but a tire dealer should be able to provide the "Tire revolutions/mile" data. If they are exactly the same, then no problem. If they are very close, such as a difference of 5 revolutions or less, then still no problem since Identical tires are different due to wear, flat spotting etc.

Already thought of this and found my answers on this before. They absolutely can be combined with non Plus ones. I just found out today when getting my tires rotated and asked the members that worked at discount tire. Also confirmed by tirerack.com Now I know they have a policy something about if you have a road hazard like this they cover it in certain ways sometimes...

Thanks guys. I've called around and the tires are not warrantied against pot hole damage unless you have the road hazard policy, which I unfortunately did not buy. I will do so in the future though. I may go after the township for failing to maintain the roads.

Re the tires, I'm actually thinking about replacing all four and going with Yokohama Advan S4's. Kind of down on the Michelin brand at the moment and the tires were really noisy. Also, it was a sizable pot hole but in my opinion not big enough that it should have destroyed two tires. I'll probably just use the Michelin as a spare since I dont have a properly sized spare at the moment anyway.

I had the same thing happen last year. One pothole took out two tires at 2:30 am in the rain on my way home from a long day at work. I was not a happy camper. They were #2 & 3 of the 4 flats I had last year. Fortunately, I had replaced the spare about a week earlier. One of the two blewout, so I changed it and got home, but I had to replace the back one due to a blister. I'm using the Advans and like them better than the Michelins I was previously using.

this forum is like a support group. amazing how there's always someone with a similar experience. i'm still in shock about the whole thing. took photos of the pot hole and there's a valve cover in the middle. found out that it belongs to the Gas Co. so I'm in contact with them to get reimbursed, which would make me feel A LOT better...
