problem programming car for new battery...

Default problem programming car for new battery...
had the tech change the last digit of ser# as per direction on forum. When he entered the command to make it so, the computer said the change was denied, or not allowed, or some verbage to that effect. However, when he got out of the program and went back to that site or adress or whatever its called, the ser# that came up for my battery was the version with the digit he had entered. So, did my car get programmed for a new battery or not ?

If the number has changed then it has been accepted in the controller despite the error message that was seen
