Default Radiator Leak

Well guys, the A8 has been great for some time now. Until the other day when I got a "please turn off the engine and check engine coolant level" message. Happened a few times and went away after I restarted the car. Took it to the dealer for them to look at it (for free of course) they ran an inspection and found the following:

Car had a small and slower radiator leak. They advised to have the radiator and hoses replaced. Quoted $1406 including the radiator for $407 + random hoses and clips and 6 hours of labor!! This would include the "updated and newer" radiator that is different than the own I currently own.

Called up my local indy and they said they would do the work for $600 installed + the part cost of any hoses if I actually need them. Amazing shop btw, very understanding in my needs and the cost of the work and parts. This also included the newer updated radiator. part #, (4E0-121-251-G)

So anyone's 2c?

There's an upper hose that is needed with the updated radiator (two actually) is one or the other, ask your mechanic to check which one you already have there.

If that leak is slow you have time to wait for parts. Check prices online.

Just recently replaced my radiator on an 05 due to pinhole leak. Got updated radiator and replaced all hoses, while my mechanic had bumper off he did the timing belt water pump, and therm. Radiator alone was only like $255 I think.

Yeah I thought about it as well. I found the radiator for $239 on genuinevwaudiparts.com. Like I said my indy is pretty good at matching prices and I'm sure they will come close to those prices in addition to a shipping charge added on too.

My timing belt, water pump, and thermo were all replaced at 77k with the blauparts package, but my serp belt wasn't because I was sent the wrong one. How much extra would it be for them to throw on a new serpentine belt at the same time?

They shouldn't charge much of anything, I'd guess you would just have to pay for the belt...they will be right there anyway and it's not difficult at all to replace it.

Can you see where the leak is? I had a pinhole leak on my D2. $5 worth of jbweld, and it was fixed. You might want to try the JB Weld if you want to avoid replacing the whole radiator.
