reporting a successful V1 hardwired install, pics added
hi all,
as this big car gets to like 90 without me knowing,
i have decided its critical to get some protection.
i have now hardwired a V1 for a third time.
the D3 took some doing because of the tight
fitments of the trim in the dash and A-pillar.
(my previous B7 A4 was a breeze in comparison)
but you will avoid removing any trim, and you
will not have to clip any of the car's OEM wiring.
in all my cars i keep the main unit on a visor clip,
so its easy to swap out to my other cars.
-Fusetap blade into location #1, the 5A gar door fuse.
-Ground wire to the little nut right below, in the fusebox.
-'Direct-Wire Power Adapter' into the panel above deadpedal.
-'Concealed Display' centered above the climate control.
the red wire from the V1 power adapter was crimped
to the fusetap. i have been using this product:
http://www.sojdm.com/store/pc/viewPr...6&idproduct=66
the fusebox(by driver) is really tight but can handle
the tap and the main and ground wires if you put the power adapter where i did.
you can fish those wires to the fusebox
via the space above the hood latch pull.
fishing the main unit rj-11 wire from the adapter, back
into the fusebox, via the same hood latch space, and then
up thru the pillar and along top of windshield took time
and a spatula. the wire will remain visible but neat
in the seam at bottom of a-pillar as it comes up from
fusebox, as it is impossible to hide it 100% there.
however as you fish it along it can be buried in the seam
on the dash and between a-pillar and glass, with effort.
getting the concealed display rj11 wire to my location is easier.
just run it above the plastic panel in the footwell and then
it hides easily in the seam that runs from near accel pedal
up to the center console. use 2-sided tape on top of the display
unit and affix to the little overhang below the hazard light.
you will just see the rj-11 connector on the side of the unit
but its not unsightly to me, and i have the light tan trim.
its even stealthier with black. the V1 red light looks oem too.
i know a few old threads here point some of this out, but just
thought i could contribute. its one of the few mods i have been
able to do without making a mess out of it.
regards , john.

That sounds great. I was on a long road trip the past two days so I blew the dust off of my V1 and used it. Had it on the passenger side visor and ran the power cord down the A pillar. I secure the wire behind the rubber gasket in a few spots. Then it goes through the glove box and back out to the cigarette lighter. I have the remote display attached to the cigarette lighter power plug.
Only downfall is the false laser alarms at open road toll stations on the Illinois Tollway system.

the viewing angle of the concealed display isnt perfect, but
i keep the audio up anyway, and it looks more oem there too.
