Default S8 bumper conversion

Hey!

I've been thinking about changing out the front bumper on my 2006 4.2 TDI A8. I've read some on procedecures and details here and there, but I cannot fully understand wether it will work or not.

What I've heard is that the S8 front bumper is a bit wider so the bigger your engine is the easier it is to wrap it around, yet you have to saw the wings in order for it to slip in?

And those things with the chrome moldings on, is there much risk when taking them off and putting them into the new one?

Beware that this is done on a 2006 4.2 TDI (Europe) and the desired bumper is the pre facelift one (2006-2007).

Thanks in advance!

The bumper inserts should be interchangeable. You will have to be careful when doing so.

The S8 cover are the same for preface lift or face lift. The only difference is the fog light assembly and the covers for them. Your choice to which one you prefer. I refer the round preface lift so those fogs and covers is what I used. The grills are interchangeable between all fish mouth grills. I used an 08 W12 grill since I liked the look of that one the best.

Not sure about engine differences but I know a W12 will work with no modifications. Just parts differences. I have seen one diesel mod but not sure if there were any modification. I think someone was tryig to do the S8 cover change with a 4.2 diesel and I thought he was having a cooler interference issue. Do a search here about a S8 cover mod.

If I were you as a 4.2 TDI owner, the first upgrade I would be spending money on is an ECU tune.

A tuned 4.2tdi will keep an S8 or W12 very honest and most likely in the rear view mirror. They really are that quick.

By the way, making your car look to be something else by wasting cash on a bumper change is a dbag move.

With S8's being speed limited to 155 MPH, the ECU tune on my pre FSI 4.2 was sure worth the price (for me, anyway).

Don't worry Sir Saruman, the all wise wizard of the realm of Audi. Dave actually did me a favor. I will indeed spare the money and use it to switch to the superior W221 when the time is due. Damn you look like him!

Glad I was able to help you see sense. The sooner you get yourself out of here and onto an S class forum where you can massage each other's egos over how badass and pimp you and your car are the better.
