Spark plugs
Time for new plugs. Only found a single plug thread!
Pulled one and it's the VW Audi branded Bosch for element plug. They were installed at 57,000 miles, now have 118,000. Stick with OEM, or?

The factory plugs I bought are NGK 101905616. Purchased from Sunset or Audiusaparts. There may be better now, iridium. These seem to work fine. A good iridium might go 120,000 miles though.
Check the coil packs while in there. The original were recalled. My car had the yellow recall sticker. Found three new coil packs and five original.

The originals that came out had 3 grounds. For people who choose a non-oem plug, how would you know what to set the gap to for a single ground plug? I just went OEM-Audi when I did my last change... they are platinum, rather than iridium... but that is what the car was designed with. The originals looked pretty good when I changed them (for routine maintenance), I guess I would expect the 2nd ones to need chaining at 200,000 miles if there are no issues.

I think maybe the 3 prong ones are the S8 type. As we know, the W12's are single prong NGK. I gave up on the old four prong stuff on my C5 4.2 (same as D2). They were prone to fouling as car burned more oil, and the single prong has the advantage of always burning the spark at the same prong to keep it clear. Yes, Iridium could go longer, especially the double tipped ones (center electrode and prong). Not sure anyone has a good spec on the life in that case, other than the generic 100K mile stuff for the vehicles that spec them--and often have hard to change plugs anyway like the back of a transverse V6.

Here is what came out of my 2009 D3 4.2L FSI... a 3 pronged NGK, that said Audi VW on the other side (replacement was p/n 101905621B that looked the same). They looked so good at at 83k mi, i just kept them as spares. It is an interesting thought that a spark going to just 1 prong may keep the spark path cleaner.. anyway, interested to hear what iridiums people have had good luck with, and their gaps.
