Hello folks;

I purchased my 2005 A8 in January, 2005. Love the car and changed the Tstat after 100,000km.

What is realistic to expect my next need to change since I HATE the cost of doing so??

Hope to have this car for 30 years.

I'm at a 180K miles on original thermostat, so hopefully not soon

Wow!

My dealer told me to change every 80,000km. They also told me that if the stat went the engine would seize.

Do you have other info?

From what I've gathered, they really don't go bad. I've searched through probably 185892984 posts on here and other forums, and haven't found any instances of the thermostat crapping out. Usually it gets replaced as preventative maintenance during the timing belt job
