Timing via Vag-Com
I recently had my second timing belt job done. After a ton of obstacles at the shop it went to, it was finally completed. I've put a full tank through it since being returned, and the gas mileage seems worse. The performance of the engine doesn't feel any different, though. The only other part that was replaced around the same time was the MAF sensor.
Is there a way to check the timing using vag-com?
I have a new fuel filter + a can of BG44K that I'm planning on installing soon, so hopefully that will help some.

Run a scan anyway, but actually look for other codes--vacuum leaks, mixture/lean, etc. Also make sure variable valve timing components are not showing an issue--that is, not the timing per se, but whether the sensors are plugged in correctly and functional. Most all of this should also show up as a CEL though a few may take a couple of cycles to trigger the light.
If timing belt was done "by the book" should be no issue. Sometimes though it can be a bit of a judgment call on which tooth if you don't lock off tensioner or something like that.

Thanks guys. I'll be rechecking for codes in the morning, since it's been driven about 150 miles since I picked it back up. I popped the belt covers off today and snapped some pictures, but I realized I wouldn't be able to tell even if something was off and noticeable from those.

The differences between an engine being spot on and being say 14 degrees off are subtle. Get or borrow a VCDS cable and laptop, read the measuring blocks and report back. Important things are
fuel trim - both banks
ignition timing
camshaft timing.

I'm finally getting around to checking the blocks. 90,91,92,93,32,33, and 24 are on my list.
As for codes, the only one that isn't caused by my LED bulbs is:
16497 - Intake Air Temp. Sensor (G42)
P0113 - 002 - Signal too High - Intermittent
I had this prior to replacing the MAF. Replaced MAF, cleared, all was well until I had the same slight hesitation at a red light two days ago. Checked this morning, and the code is back again. Going to check the connector & it might be irrelevant. Off to pull the measuring block values now.
