Default TPMS Module Part number

Hi Guys.

I'm a relatively new 2006 S8 owner although I've owned various Audis for the last 15 years or so.

My new (to me) car has a few gremlins - one of which is the TPMS. It wont switch on via the MMI, and vcds cant communicate with the module. I've lifted the rear bench to make sure it is plugged in which it is.

The VCDS log is:

01325 - Control Module for Tire Pressure Monitoring (J502)
004 - No Signal/Communication
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 01100100
Fault Priority: 5
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 156
Mileage: 121993 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2015.01.16
Time: 10:19:41

My conclusion is the module is probably dead and needs replacing. I've looked on ebay and there are plenty available. The problem is that whilst the Part number matches (4F0 907 273A), the "to be used in conjunction" label is different.

The currently installed one says use in conjunction with TX RDKS/RE, TSS/RE3, TSS/RE3b, TSS/RE4b, TSS/RE3L. The ones on ebay tend to just say use in conjunction with TX TSS/RE4T or TSS/RE3t.

My question is will these modules still work?

Thanks in advance!

I know this doesn't directly answer your question, but that p/n 4E0910273A fits 05-early 07 cars with no reference to the other #'s that you put down. I thought maybe looking at the tpms sensors would show me more but it doesn't. There is a 4E0910273 that fits early 05 and older A8's. The listing is simple in this case and tells me to use the 273A for your car. Retail is 600.00 and yours would be 446.40, I looked on ebay and found them for 500.00 new but perhaps other listings dropped off by now. Any questions please ask us. Thank you, Jeff.

Before ordering a new module try pulling the battery on the car. My instrument cluster portion of VCDS was unreachable. I pulled the battery and all communication was restored. Easy enough to try it, just remove the positive lead from the battery.

Do you have low tire pressure warning on your instrument cluster? If you do not your system is turned off. Use VCDS to turn it on first than scan it. Probably you need only to replace your sensors because of dead batteries.

Hi, no warnings, but I can turn toms on and off via the mmi, but when I turn it on it turns off after a second or two. The other options are greyed out.

Where would I check in vcds to see if it is turned off somewhere else (bearing in mind I can't communicate with the tpms module).

I have also tried the battery trick already when I picked the car up with no difference.

Thanks.

Check for Installed list under CAN Gateway. I believe it's there.

Many thanks for looking it up.

My thoughts are that it more than likely is identical as the part number matches and I've yet to find any parts from Audi that don't follow that rule.

I'll be giving it chance as I can get one shipped from Germany for £45 to try and then I've just got to get new sensors no doubt.

Thanks again.

Default No joy :-(

I ordered a replacement module from eBay and it turned up earlier today.

Swapped it over and the TPMS still wont stay switched on through the MMI.

I've checked that module 65 is switched on under CAN gateway using VCDS and it made no difference (even tried un-ticking it to see if anything happened and it didn't)

Has anyone got any other ideas?

I am getting the following error under CAN gateway (in addition to the TPMS error) :

01044 - Control Module Incorrectly Coded
000 - -
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 01100000
Fault Priority: 1
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 156
Mileage: 121993 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2015.01.16
Time: 10:21:26

I'm guessing this is caused by the Dension that is fitted??

Thanks,

Default Check to see if "hidden menu" enabled too

and then if it is unchecked there. The "Reifen" (tires in German) choice IIRC. It's been a long time, but I think Hidden menu is another way to disable it, if in turn someone enabled hidden menu feature in the first place w/ VCDS.

See my prior post reply here, and third picture toward bottom: Vehicle Sub-Menu in Hidden Menu - AudiWorld Forums

How old are your wheel sensors? Batteries can last 5-6 years and than sensors have to be replaced. Newer MMI software doesn't offer switching TPMS on/off and in case of dead battery (even one wheel) gives warning that can't be turned off. I am not sure, but your software may just switch system off when batteries are dead. I would try with replacing sensors.
