Update......replacing all of the O2 sensors while it's apart. I've learned to always use Bosch sensors since the OE ones are Bosch. About $80 a piece on Rockauto. Not too bad. Holy hell this car has too many sensors.

My plan to is run without resonators but use Borla or MagnaFlow mufflers to keep it reasonable. If it's too raspy or loud I'll install a set of small resonators.
Factory exhaust is 2.25". I'm going to 2.5".

After having a few beers and staring at the factory exhaust it suddenly occurred to me why Audi placed four resonators in the exhaust stream and why they are located in those spots. The resonators are located below each seating location which would help reduce in-cabin resonance and droning. Been doing some engineering research into exhaust system layouts and placement. The engineers I've talked to all say the ideal location for the resonator bodies is under the seats.

Post up pictures soon. New exhaust is coming together very nice. 100% stainless steel 2.5". Minimized bends. Running two Vibrant resonator bottle cans under the drivers/passengers area to minimize droning. Still looking into muffler options.
Hired a local pipe welder to TIG weld everything for me.

I built 3" x pipe system for mine.
You can get the little 1.5" flex joints in all stainless from verocious motorsports.
Punched stock cats, magnaflow 200 cell units, I kept the stock mufflers but it would really make the sound smoother at high RPM with a straight through magnaflow.
Regarding your system design, its generally advisable to have the bank to bank crossover (X pipe) be as close to the combustion source as possible. There is an optimal length that can be calculated. You want nice hot high speed gases to be passing through it, in an effort to scavenge from the other bank. Having the merge so far back gives the gases time to cool and thus slow down, as well as you may inadvertently setup a tuned resonance pipe. This is when the exhaust pulse travels down a length of pipe, and meets a larger opening, sending a reverse wave back. If tuned correctly, this can be benefficial. If tuned incorrectly, you will have an exhaust pule coming out the headers, meeting a pulse travelling back from your exhaust pipe. You end up with dilution in the combustion chamber.
Not trying to dissuade you, but something to keep in mind.
Take a look at all OEM exhaust crossover points, their proximity to the cylinder heads.
Either way, have fun!
