Valentine 1 with an A8
I just got off the phone with Valentine and learned a couple interesting things. One, they said that adaptive cruise will freak out the V1. They suggested running it in advanced logic mode, but couldn't guarantee it wouldn't false alarm all the time.
More interestingly, they said that A8's have a coated windshield that causes radar detectors to read poorly through them. I just looked at my windshield and it doesn't look any different than my S4 did, which read fine.
Any experiences out there?

Re: Valentine 1 with an A8
I had a V1 on a 2004 A8 with no problems and just installed one with the concealed display feature (first time I have used that) on an '07 S8. So far it appears to be working fine. I'm not sure how I would tell if it wasn't, however.

Only pre-2000 A8s w/warm weather pkg have a UV film in the windshield.
So don't worry about that.
But yes, laser guided cruise control, photo enforced traffic lights, and certain LED tail lights can set off the V1's laser warning. If your local PD uses laser, you need a laser jammer anyway, assuming it's legal in your state.

They may be referring to receiving adaptive cruise radar from other cars
My A6 with a V1 definitely picks up other cars that pretty obviously have it--various Lexi, optioned up Sienna XLE minivans among the more common. Kind of scary actually when you encounter it in suburban non freeway settings and realize these drivers just kind of mindlessly have it on all the time. Don't have the V1 in a car with adaptive though to know if any reflection back gets picked up much.

D3 A8 Adaptive Cruise on + radar on = useless radar
If you plan to turn on your adaptive cruise, then your V1 radar is likely to be useless. It would be similar to driving behind a Q7 with Side Assist all the time. Does turning off the cruise control function turn off the radar receiver in your bumper? If so, you could use the V1 but not when using cruise control.
The D3 windscreen film is an option in Europe and possibly RoW but not here in NA so I would not worry about that.

A8's have aluminum coated windsheilds....
Your only solution is a hard wired one where the detection modules are located in the grill of the car.
Also on a side note the morons at Audi who designed the Q7's lane departure system used k band radar for the system. So it will go awol around Q7 which are equipped with this option.
