Default Valve for Torque Support Mount

Hi guys,

I did a search on this topic and came up with a few post but nothing that matched the fault.

So, what exactly does this mount do? I know there is a few mounts for our V8's of which I've had the resisters installed in 2 of them under one of the TSB's issued, but this one threw a fault as follows.

Any ideas??

EDIT, for some reason, when I copy and paste the error into the forums, most of the numbers are changed to stars...?

from Audi's SSP on the D3 at intro:

http://152.66.93.29/audi/download/au...20Features.pdf

(numbered p. 6; p 10 of pdf; link has the illustrations if it opens)

Engine – Mechanics

Engine Mounting
Torque Support Valve N382

The purpose of Torque Support Valve
N382 is to cushion the drive axle and and
driveshaft torque. Its position at the right
front corner of the engine is ideal. This is
where the engine motion resulting from
driveshaft and drive axle torque
accumulates.

The Torque Support Valve N382 is divided
into two halves by the plastic ring, the
sheet metal ring, and the isolation
diaphragm. Both halves are filled with
hydraulic fluid (glycol). The isolation
diaphragm is flexibly linked to the plastic
and sheet metal rings.

If the Torque Support Valve N382 is
subjected to load, the hydraulic fluid can be
displaced between the top and bottom
sections through a connecting pipe, the
dimensions of which are such that it acts as
a restrictor at a defined frequency.

Locknut

When the solenoid is de-energized,
vibration causes the plastic ring with sheet
metal ring and isolation diaphragm to
oscillate as well. The moments of vibration
are damped slightly and thus transmitted to
a lesser extent to the body. The Torque
Support Valve N382 is relatively “soft.”
At engine speeds below about 1100 rpm
and vehicle speeds of less than 3 mph (5
km/h), the solenoid is energized and
attracts the sheet metal ring together with
the plastic ring.

This restricts the movement of the isolation
diaphragm, which can then only vibrate
slightly. In this case there is a high level of
vibration damping and the Torque Support
Valve N382 is relatively “hard.”

Thanks for the response. Good read of the SSP.

So the fault that I have being an "open circuit" suggests that the solenoid is not operating due to failed valve mount. Is that right?

Cheers

Default Sounds right...

If you have VAG COM, look into the diagnostics more. At least on my C5, I can activate the left and right motor mounts (not sure about the torque one off hand), and when I do you can hear the solenoid click. Since only one of mine now does click, likewise I'm guessing the (12 year old) mount has died.

No, valve function affects engine vibration reduction. If it has the valve BTW; my W12 does not, nor did my 2000 A6 4.2. Some D3 4.2'ers though have said their cars have the electrical function one. Bigger picture the mount is important to keep the motor from twisting around the crankshaft and drive tube when you put it under load. If it cracks open/apart, a lot of that valve is lost. On a stick car, the function would be more visible if the shift linkage were direct or in the right plane and you see the shifter rock back and forth as you get on and off the gas. It is also relevant to keeping the main motor mounts from getting torn up from higher pushing and pulling stresses over time as the power of the motor ebbs and flows. Those main mounts in turn are more $$ to replace and if broken lead to a more obvious bunch of vibration thorough car, steering wheel sensation, etc.

You don't say what year your car is nor were you are located but I found the following TSB. It states that the electronic valve was eliminated after 2005 MY and shows how to install a resister to fool the ecu.

I know this is an old thread but I have a similar situation.

I have a 2004 Audi A8 D3 4.0 TDi

The code I received is as follows:
18284 - Valve for Torque Support Mount
P1876 - 000 - Open Circuit Freeze Frame: RPM: 651 /min Torque: 105.3 Nm Speed: 0.0 km/h Voltage: 13.45 V Bin. Bits: 0 Bin. Bits: 0 Bin. Bits: 0 Temperature: 60.3°C
Readiness: 0 0 1 1 1

Where do I find this in my engine bay and how do I test with VCDS if its working.
Is replacement easy?

The replacement isn't bad, it's a common failure. On the petrol version, it's on the right side of the car below the airbox, inboard a bit. I'm sure it's in a similar place on the diesel. It will look something like what is shown below, that's one from a 4.2 petrol V8 and has failed completely.

I just fixed my Torque Support Mount fault code problem.
Did a visual inspection of my
mount and it was in good condition, no leaking, no cracks.
From under the car front right passenger side the connector to the
mount can be seen, unplug and connect the Adapter Harness.
I used a zip tie to secure it.
Cleared the code, and done.

Bought mine from a Audi dealer, about $30 (~250 SEK)
