Default VCDS Lite reads engine module only

Hi Guys,

My VCDS Lite works for the engine but does not pick up any other module? I guess I am doing something wrong and this looks like a silly question (at least that is what I hope).

It connects no problems but a point to note is, I have a 2003 A8 D3 and VCDS software does not list my car?

Any info would be great thankyou.

AFAIK, the Lite is just like any OBD II tool and only reads SAE defined engine diagnostic codes. You need the CAN cable. By the way, the D3's are considered 2004 model year and up in North America. The Ross Tech stuff is meant for North America so choose 2004 on the menu. My '04 was built in February or March of 2003.

I don't think so, you won't get the full package, not sure where you are in the world, so contact Ross-tech and they will guild you to the correct kit.

Thanks Mate. I didn't order it untill somebody confirmed if it would be ok or not. I have looked at the Ross-Tech package (the $699) and will probably order that in a months time (Skint at the moment).

I hope they ship to england...

There are distributors in the UK that might save some hassle/time:

The one you list might be overkill unless you own several different Audis/VWs. I think that most of us are using one of the following:
VCDS License with HEX-USB+CAN Interface ($349.00)
VCDS License with HEX-COM+CAN Interface ($349.00)
The "COM" interface, that used an old-style serial interface, is often preferred; but most newer computers now only have USB interfaces, so I suspect many people buy that version. Just make sure you get a real Ross-Tech cable that lists "CAN" in the name.

Another thumbs up for the Bentley manual, if you plan to do any work on the car yourself.

You just need this one
http://store.ross-tech.com/shop/VCHUC.html
£260 delivered to UK.
It is what I have. When I bought mine in 2006, the exchange rate was $2=£1 now about $1.54
