Default Water inside the spare tire well... everywhere else is dry?

Today, cleaning up the trunk and I found water inside the spare tire well. Check all around the area and found none wet or sign of water leaks... hmm.

Could it be a spill, rather than an ingress?

If it hasn't rained or it hasn't been washed for a while, it would be that the carpet dried but the well hasn't yet. That can keep a puddle for quite a while, depending on how much got in there. If you can't find any signs of residue or stains pointing to a point of ingress, you may have to pour some water around the seals to see if it'll leak through anyplace. It may only leak when under pressure, like from a car wash.

My old BMW did the same thing! The way I found the issue is to strip the trunk, pour baby powder everywhere, and then wait for it to rain or take it through a car wash, thus will result in the powder showing the flow path. For my BMW it turned out to be the rear taillight seals.

Default As long as my electrical devices are working... I'm OK

It doesn't rain much in CA, only last season, dogs and cats... It must be from the storm.

Cheers,

Louis

That's resourceful!

Louis: I had the same thing on my Passat and it was the sunroof drain hose where it passed through the side compartment, near the nav dvd thing. It leaked out the weak padded hose, trickled onto whatever bracket was nearby, across the floor of the compartment and somehow made it into the spare tire well without wetting the carpet.

It has been pointed out to me that you wouldn't be the first to use flour to find the wet spot...
