Well, that sucked. Drove about 5 miles this morning on the way to work, and started losing power.
Car stalled while on single lane hgwy. Pulled over, turned it off, and back on again, started no problem. Same thing happened again within 1/2 mile. Turned around and headed home. Had to stop at least 10 times as the engine continued to just shut off. Even had problems starting again. Had to let it sit for several minutes before it would start again and get me another couple hundred yards. Now sitting in a shopping center parking lot. It'll start like normal, but within 10 seconds, it'll start losing power, and then stall.
Anyone familiar with this? Any DIY suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I didn't notice. I did have the hood open a couple of times, and nothing looked out of the ordinary
like overheating. Might explain why i could have made it about 5 miles before the problem kicked in.

Has your thermostat been replaced? Is this '04 new to you or purchased when new?
Just noticed you've only made 23 posts, so you must have bought used. Any service records with it?

Would it be reasonable to assume if I start it this afternoon, and let it warm up, that the
temp gauge will rise above the normal setting if the thermo is bad? Guess that would be one way to rule it out.

Give it a go, although hard to believe another thermo is shot this soon!
It seems, I remeber mine locking up at about 35K and one would hope Audi put in a better "mouse trap" during the repair so we wouldn't have to worry about it again. I haven't heard of thermo issues except in the 04's so perhaps they found a new manufacturer.
