I have them on mines as well. I never payed them any mind till now. They are in the out position, so I am taking it they been that way for the last 4 and 1/2 years. I never had a problem with assisting the trunk to open like a few of you guys mentioned. It could be used to give the truck a extra push when first opened.

I also see them in cabriolets but always in the retracted position, don't see any practical use for them

Well, that's easy. Stick them out and see if that makes any difference.

Notice them on the 05 yesterday and they are also extended.

Have almost zero resistance so I doubt they do much of anything.
