Default Wheel offset question

Greetings everyone,

After finally taking delivery of my '06 A8 SWB this weekend i've begun ordering a few new parts for the car. One of the major planned purchases is a set of new Summer wheels. After reading through the forums I think i'm sold on finding a set of 21" wheels. Given the odd size i'm a little limited on options and as such have though about utilizing a set of the oem 21" Q7 s-line wheels.

I know the wheels are a 5x130 bolt pattern as opposed to the A8's 5x112 but I can get around this with a set of H&R wheel adaptors. My question pertains to the final calculated offset. The wheels are a +44 and with a 15mm spacer will end up at +29. Will I have any issues running these on the A8? I apologize for the potentially stupid question but after searching was unable to find the answer.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Matt

Default You gotta know the width too...

Simple example--a 44mm offset just as you say and thus 44mm off the centerline. But oops, the wheels are 12" wide. Hmmm, for sure not going to fit.

I don't know the width you have in mind, but if the Q7's are 10" as I suspect in 21's, it's likely a no go when you do the calcs.

Also, can you really get an adapter--and a safe one meaning rated for the A8's weight and not just an A4 type set up--that is only 15 mm wide?

Tempted to quote Mr Nader here.

A 21" tire is going to have a very small sidewall, and hence a nightmarish ride.

I'd be very surprised if a tire/wheel combo like that didn't rub.
Lowering would only exacerbate that issue.

p.s - My tenure is little more than a year here but it would be most interesting to see the thread where someone recommended a 21

Default IIRC

BimotoS8 (??) fit 21" MTM's and posted some pics. The other 21" pics I've seen are pretty laughable.

For the OP, if you are looking at the 21" twin seven spoke type wheels that go with the Q7 S-Line type package, why not just get the ones made for the D3 with the right offsets, width,etc.--20" x 9 twin 7, forged, two tone/polished. Found as an option from 2007 on. Can be pricy used. Sort of similar early S8 ones are likely cheaper though not forged AFAIK and not polished.

Watch the tire prices too. 20's in 275/35's are at a decent price point. I suspect fewer and pricier in 21's for sizes that make any sense diameter wise. Ride issues another story probably as jakematic gets at.

Not here, but you can see even 24's recommended. On a dump truck forums, of course.

Thank you for the replies everyone,

I apologize for not posting the width but they are indeed a 10" wide rim. As for the recommendations while scouring through older wheel posts I frequently saw mention of the 21's while members were posting pictures of recently acquired 22's on an A8. I also was sold after seeing the 21" MTM's mounted on a D3 A8.

H&R manufactures a 15mm hub adaptor that would work and i've always been impressed with their products. They also sell a +20 and +25 hub adaptor but i'd imagine that would be a little too extreme with this particular wheel.

Of course I could run the OEM 20's, I just happened to run across an extremely good deal on the Q7 wheels and after searching found that the appropriate tires (either 255/30/21 or 275/30/21) really weren't much more expensive than the comparable 20 inch tires.

Again I appreciate all of the feedback.
