Sounds crazy, but it's gotta be in that range to trap 126. Really sweet little V8. Down the road (after warranty expiration), I'm going to look into a custom meth kit using the wiper fluid reservoir and see if APR will dyno tune it so it will run deeper into the 10s.

What about upcoming APR downpipes? Assuming they are the same across all 4.0T (S6/7 RS7 A/S8).
Which would you choose?

Interesting...I'm a bit too conservative to try methanol, but I'm interested in what you manage.

Exhaust work is something I considered because this car is just too darn quiet, but for performance that area did not seem to be a good value. All I had found were a few $4,000 cat-back systems with no dyno numbers and some $4,000 downpipes I would have to import from Europe. No thanks. But if there is 30 or 40 wheel HP to be had for, say $2,000 with APR downpipes, I would probably give it a shot.
A few cars ago, I had an N54 335i with downpipes and meth. Two great mods. The downpipes gave the car a nice growl and a good gain. The meth was a bit roguish, mostly because of the tank in the trunk, but a clean install using a water/meth mix in the wiper fluid tank would be awesome. Lots of shops do custom installs, so I know I can get that done. Custom dyno tuning would also probably free up some power over what is essentially a mail order APR tune. None of this is imminent, but my mind will be on it.

True. Audi seems to prefer high revving high horsepower in their "lighter" sports cars as opposed to the turbo torque monsters in the big sedans. Even the R8 V10 plus barely gets over 400lb-ft and that's way up at 6500rpm.
I guess there are some guys who have dropped turbos on an R8 to achieve ludicrous speed but it would be interesting to see someone attempt a highly tuned 4.0T in an R8. (Maybe won't work well because of the hot-vee.) (or turbo plumbing and intercooler etc may not be worth the weight hit.)

Supercars have always done it that way. I think it's because the 4.0 is torquier, they are more prone to wheelspin in such a light car. Giving it an engine with less torque and more HP means it's more manageable without losing out on much on the track. Also, for me anyway, I find a naturally aspirated engine to be more fun than a turbo car of similar performance.

That they are, for efficiency. Porsche has had turbo cars for a long time, and I've seen more than one reviewer state that they in a way preferred the non-turbo ones, despite being slower. We're reaching the limits of what an engine can produce without a power adder or huge displacement.
