19" work, but 20" look better with great snow performance in Minnesota. Rims are Zenetti Venice with 25 offset. Tires are Dunlop Winter Sport 3D 265/40/R20. Total package was around $2,300 installed.

Unless you are thinking Blizzaks or some such, consider a set of the quasi dime a dozen OE twin 10 spoke 20 x 9 wheels for a winter set up. Forged wheels from Fuchs, so actually quite nice construction wise, yet still a good amount lighter than the OE pig weight cast 21's our cars came with. Both the twin 10 construction specific to the D4 and then forged will make them up for the job, perhaps better than a cast 19. Easily found for good prices on EBay, sometimes Audizine, sometimes bigger Craigslists. Then the Dunlop 265/40-20s as prior reply noted. Good on road winter, and yet as winters go a capable winter highway tire when not cutting through crud or dealing w/ ice.

Thanks for everyone’s input on this. Very much appreciated. Honesty, I was most concerned about sidewall give how bad the roads are in Michigan - specifically potholes. Trying to mitigate risk of bent rims and flats which are more prevalent with low profile tires. I agree that 20s loom better. Does a 40 provide significanly more protection vs a 35?
