Default 20" wheel/tire input

I'm thinking about switching down to 20" wheels and running A/S tires for comfort/noise improvement.

Other than A8 takeoffs, are there any other OE rims that folks like for the S8? I've been surveying the AZ classifieds for a while and haven't seen much.

My other consideration on wheels is Hartmann reps in 20x9.5 ET29 (I assume this is good fitment?). I had great luck with their RS4 reps on an Audi years ago, but am a little curious how they will hold up to the much heavier S8.

On tires, TireRack is suggesting a 265/40/20, but there are all of about 4 tire models in that size. 275/45/20 is much more common, seems like it would be an ok fit on a 9.5" rim, and my check of a tire size calculator says that's very close to OE diameter. Any other sizes I should consider?

Thanks!

See my prior posts on 275/40-20. As you say, lots of options. Also zeros out the speedo error. Does bulge ever so slightly--and 265 probably shows less of that--but that also protects rim a little more. I run the twin 7's in OE. Lightest Audi 20 wheel out there in a 9." Forged--as are a few other Audi 20's.

Check eBay for OE as another source. AZ is hit and miss, and little lately. Also, the S7 ones are identical to A8, if listing mentions that model instead. S7s have too small a tire though (35's), so you would want those only as a bare wheel set. S5's also fit w a fairly similar offset--or RS5's, but those are rarely found. But you won't find forged in general unless you double back to the handful of A8/S7 choices. A6/S6 is not a good choice, due to both more conservative offset and 8-½ width. New (but not old) Q7 should fit too, but those are still new on market and the only style out there I see doesn't look like a good style choice for D4.

If you want 9-½ OE, basically almost forget it. Only on current gen RS6 OE wheels, which you need to buy via Europe/Euro EBay since RS6 was only sold here in 2003--two generations ago. 9's handle the 275's fine. Ran them for 10 years on D3 W12, in 35's for that era.

Thanks, I was hoping you would weigh in on this. Are your wheels the OE RS7 fitment? Looks like those are ET37, so are you running spacers?

Agreed that eBay seems to be the best resource, but it is weirdly difficult to search for OE rims there.

I recently ordered some Hartmann hrs6-204-ma wheels in 20x9 with a +25 offset. Also ordered the Pzero Nero with noise cancelling in 265/40/20. I'll post pics once I install. I was looking for a stock looking wheel, but more aggressive looking than my multi spoke 19s. https://www.hartmannwheels.com/audi-wheels/wheel/hartmann-hrs6-204-ma-replica-wheels-for-audi-fitment

I'd be interested to hear what you think of the Hartmanns. I'm looking at either their rotor or the S6/S7 style.

Zed,

I'm running 20 inch Hartmann rotors on my S8 with 275's.

Works fine.....

I run a 20 inch OE wheel with 265's for winter tire/wheel setup.

Also, works fine.

So my wheels are finally being shipped to me... it's been a long wait so hopefully they look as good in person as they do in pictures. Here are a couple pics that were sent to me... hope my decision was also right on the hyper silver over brushed aluminum and next to mine brushed titanium.

Those look great. Would you mind posting more details? Their website isn't very informative.

OE wheel search string on eBay FWIW I usually use is: Audi 20 OEM wheels - Q7 . Or, substitute "stock" for "OEM" and sometimes you get a few others. Either of those two words knocks out most replica noise, and gen 1 Q7's are a lot of the rest of the noise. Notice I don't use A8 or S8 or D4 or any of that, which helps pull in the S7's and others. In Germany if you search there, wheels becomes alufelgen and you use the word "original" instead of OEM or stock.

My wheels are A8/S7 twin 7's, 20 x 9, ET37, smoke (light gray) type OE two tone finish. Summers on one and DWS06 for winters and light snow. One was eBay; the other CL. Spacers are 15's in back and 10's in front, with 275's. At 265 you could bump a bit to maybe 12 front, 20 back. Smallest hub centric in H&R front is 10, hence my use. Ideal would be only 7 or 8 with OE wheels/offset--why I think better to only go to a 12 instead of a 15 in front in 265's. I like them out to where it looks buttoned down, but arguably still stock. I also want 0.00% chance of rubbing in any scenario w/out any throat clearing excuse making that starts something like, "well, usually..."
