Default 2011 A8L GPS not tracking the car

Hello everyone. Has anyone had the problem of GPS not tracking the location of the car? Mine doesn't do it all the time and when it does it luckily I don't need to use the GPS. It shows the vehicle at a location where I am not at. When it does it the problem could last all day and the next day is back to normal. I brought it up to the dealer's attention and they upgraded the MMI software but that did not take care of the problem. The dealer wanted me to upgrade the mapping CD but I told them is not a mapping problem is a GPS tracking problem. I think maybe the GPS antenna is going bad??

Any suggestions or comments are welcomed.

Thanks.

It's the antenna most likely - happened to a couple of other folks here, but you'll have to search the forum.

Had the same issue with my '12. They replaced the antenna and that fixed the issue.

Thank you for the information. I'll approach the dealer with this information.

Any chance you have the part number? Cause the Stealership is trying to rip me off at this point.

Best,

Larry

Don't know if prior posters are still here; thread several years old.

Since then a TSB came out saying when it wanders in GPS, it needs a new MMI update. Cures that and various other ills. Dealer should have and know about the TSB BTW, so don't know what your situation is w/ them.

This thread from the past week was barking up the same tree BTW: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a8-...ation-2916363/

As I said there, I had the same issue in our 2013 Q5, which in turn is same era Nav as D4. The MMI reflash fixed it. Service writer at Audi knew about the issue long before I ever saw the TSB copy. Basically dealer only process too, since it is now flash download instead of the D3 era disk approach. Search web if you need TSB; I don't have handy.

No on instructions and such; D4 repair documentation is still very thin. But I feel like the MMI update approach superseded the old antenna ideas. On D3, antenna amp and connections were above back window hidden under the trim. You could look for a parts diagram for D4 to see if the amp concept is still there and then has the various signals from the shark fin feeding into it.

I had the same problem on my 2011 A8 and bought the part ($189 shipped) and had to spray paint it as it was in gray prime. Had my local upholstery shop install it as it has to be installed by unbuttoning the headliner from the rear to near the center side posts on each side.....bout an hour job, charged me $60
