Default Alignment for s8 plus

Hey guys...i just called the dealer to see how much they will charge for am alignment and was quoted $695 lol. Are they nuts ? Are they taking apart the entire suspension system to do the alignment ?

would you take it anywhere else to do an alignment ? remember my car has the driver assist package... I'm willing to get it done anywhere as long as it does not affect the driver assist

That's because they go through the whole sensor routine. If you get windshield replaced BTW, then apparently the whole optical alignment stuff gets folded into claim. I had mine replaced but had no sensor issues so didn't bother. On Q5 and D3 W12 I had both aligned "the old fashioned" way at my usual place (Mike's Tire--no lie) and wheels didn't fall off, no beeps, no drama. D3 has ACC, Q5 has side assist and rear camera. Neither has brake or lane assist though, nor night vision.

My own view FWIW is if nothing on car got whacked, and aligning just puts suspension back where it was to start, it seems like a stretch that sensors should really then be goofed up and need their own aligning. If insurance pays, fine, but otherwise I try the $90 job on the std. laser rack and then see if any issues arise. So far, none.

I agree. The standard laser alignment would be perfectly fine. Audi dealers are such a rip. Why not try a good German independent shop? Yelp is a great way to find them.

After my deer collision and the new bumper where installed I had to have my car realigned including the radar sensors and it was right around $300 at the dealer.

FWIW, my experience with both D3 and C5 4.2 was when inner tire wore it turned out to be the upper control bar bushings. In your case w/ a very recent one, it would seem odd to come up so early. Is a definite wear item of D4's too though from posts on this forum. If you have any creaks or noise, keep it in mind.

i do have creaks and noises...going over a rough patch of road its now sounding a little clunky...would suck if the bushings are already going bad...only have 16k miles on the car.

only 16k on ur car and its sounding clunky wow, a car of this caliber shouldn't sound no way near that even after abuse.

i love audis but im on my 3rd one and it may be the last becoz all 3 of them had alot of suspension issues its either a rattle or creak or just plain clicking noises coming from the cars that are always hard to figure out and most of the times its just easier to change the part if you think its bad hoping it would fix the issue.

seriously ive owned bmw and mercedes and they dont make creaking noises even when bushings and ball joints are toast so audi needs to step it up in that department as it makes the whole car feel cheap.
