Audi a8 4.2 tdi door handle lights

Hi just bought a 2010. Audi a8 4.2 tdi se loaded with extras my old a8 had lights on the door handles when opening does the new car not have this option?

Door Handle Light

Could you please explain what set up I need in order for the door handle lights to come on when I unlock the car. I have been unable to get them to function on my 2011 A8L D4 so far. I have tried many variations of having the lights on Auto or off completely. I even asked Audi UK and they couldn't help.

I had the same problem when I took delivery of an early- build 2011. Oddly, all the LED bulbs were faulty. You can confirm if you have the lights by locating the lens on the forward underside of the door handles. Also, for them to function, the light switch has to be on AUTO. To replace the bulbs appears to be a dealer task. Removing the door panels is complex. Hope this helps.

And make sure that the MMI settings are turned on in CAR>CAR SYSTEMS>VEHICLE SETTINGS>EXTERIOR LIGHTING. Individual settings are there for LIGHTS ON WHEN LEAVING CAR and for WHEN UNLOCKING CAR.

Thanks for the info. I checked my settings and they are as you suggest. Still no lights on. Maybe all 4 LED's are faulty. Unlikely but I can't think of any other reason.

Hardly essential as the rear and front lights come on when unlocked and again when locked. Thanks again
