Default Audi Map update service

I registered my A8 on the Audi Connect website--I have a Feb 2011 build A8.
I am reading there is a "map update service" which allows consumers to do their own map updating--download an update to a SD card--and upload it to the vehicle via the SD slot in the MMI
It looks pretty straightforward---has anyone tried it?
Does this even apply to my car?

thanks, Dave

Do you have a link to it ?
I haven't heard of this on the A8, but know there is/was a license key involved.

Page 5 shows that to be A3 only (no dot in the A8 column)

your probably right--sorry for the confusion---

So, to get any map upgrade--I take it that the dealer has to do it and that they balk at doing so (from what I've read here).

My dealer certainly didn't balk at charging me $450 to order the DVD and install an update! I live in the DFW TX area which is always under construction. The only recommendation was that I wait a year. BTW, I received the DVD case and when I opened it several weeks later . . . NO DVD. Complained of course, but no resolution.

I can't put my hand on the actual case, but the RO states the PN is 8R0-060-884-AM
