Default Bluetooth Question

Just picked up my new 2011 Audi A8L last week and so far love it! Nobody at the dealership could give me an answer to this question however and I would appreciate it if someone did know the answer and would share it with me. I enjoy using the bluetooth handsfree system in the car when I am in the car by myself however when I have passengers I prefer to use my ear piece so the entire conversation is not blasted throughout the car. So far the only way I have been able to do this is by turning off the bluetooth in the car which is easy enough but a bit of a hassle. I have also tried putting on my ear piece prior to getting in the car but the system in the car will override it immediately once I turn the car on. As a side note I am using an iPhone and a Motorola ear piece.

Any input would be appreciated. Other than that the car has been a dream!

Thanks,

Glenn

Turning off the Bluetooth in the car is the only way to use the earpiece.

With most phones I've used, including the iPhone 4 with which it is easy, your are able to select the output for the audio of the call.

For instance, on the iPhone 4, you would see something similar to below on the handset during a call:

1. Handset (the private ear speaker on your phone)
2. Speaker (the loudspeaker on your phone)
3. Audi UHV XXXX (the bluetooth connection to your Audi's stereo/mic system)

I should add that this will keep your car in phone mode so the music will be muted but the sound will output only on your phone's private ear speaker.

Now, if you are unfortunate enough to have a phone that will not let you select and output method for the call audio, then you are stuck with turning off the bluetooth via the car menu.

(And provided the D4's bluetooth functions similar to a D3's).

The only other way I know of is to use a corded hands-free set. Since they seem to include one with every phone I buy these days, I usually keep one in each car for just such an occasion.
