Default Brake Job Questions

I'm replacing rear rotors and ceramic pads front and rear. I have the scan tool to engage/disengage EPB. I took everything apart yesterday without much problem but once I got to removing the caliper bracket I didn't have the right torx bit. It requires 12 point bit and I only have 6 points so I'm waiting for the part from amazon.

Qustion - Audi D4 A8L rear brake caliper, does the piston need to be twisted in using a winding caliper tool? If so, is it the same for front caliper pistons?

I'll try to take some pictures and create a DIY as I couldn't find too many detailed instructions out there. I've seen some but its very general and doesn't tell you what tools are needed.

No twist in the caliper piston to retract. Before you remove the old pads after retracting the parking brake use a small pry bar to retract the piston against the old pads.

Thanks for the reply. I purchased a winding caliper tool thinking most VW and Audi rear calipers have twist in pistons. Can I still use that for a caliper piston that doesn't require twist/winding retraction? or will that damage the piston?

You won't need the tool as it's much to easy to use a pry bar or stout screwdriver. I mean really easy!

Don't take the torx out of the . Just take the bolts off the caliper sliders as I recall. Look closer at it up above, not below where the torx bolts are, there's nothing to it.
