car locks

car locks
When I wash my car I start out with the key in my pocket. As I walk around the car, the car locks. I have tried keeping the key a few feet away on the garage floor but the car still locks. Any ideas ?

There is an option in MMI called Auto Lock.
Basically if you unlock the car and then don't start it after a period of time, the car re-locks itself.
At least that is how it works on a D3, and it's a little more advanced on D4 from my reading.

Mine is the same especially if you swipe across the sensor on the door handles with the sponge or even a spray of water. I gave up washing with the key nearby. I've noticed the key has a range of about 30 to 40 feet and I leave the key in the house and if I need to move the car I'll use the valet key that clips inside the glove box. I know later cars do not have this key. I have not looked into changing the MMI settings but a review of the manual may offer a solution.

I always leave my key fob in the car when I wash it and have never had an issue. Pretty sure the car will not auto lock, or lock when swiping the door sensors when key is inside. Near impossible to lock keys inside an Audi vehicle.
