I have a 2011 A8 D4 with the 4.2 engine. I am getting the whistling noise quite frequently. Seems to predictably start on downhill braking and often goes away when pointing vehicle uphill. Now happens more frequently on any condition. Recently I got an unspecified vacuum leak code, as well. I suspect the PCV and/or the oil/air separator. This thread indicates the repair for the 4.0 with turbos is expensive. Is it easier to do and less expensive on the 4.2 with no turbos? Anyone know how long it takes and the expense?

Out of curiosity does anyone have any audio, or video of the whistling noise?
I feel this is an eventual replacement as opposed to a maybe replacement in the future, and want to be able to recognize it quickly when\should it arise.

Sounds like a squeal..... you should get a check engine light as well as the noise.

Thank you andrewmr. I'll just have to be extra aware of any new squeal like engine noises. No dash lights currently.

So I rang my local Audi dealership (Audi North Houston) and after discussing and the SA checking with a manager, I was told I do have this warranty for my car (2015 S8), but it is only to be performed if my car is making the whistling noise. Does that sound right? I thought this issue was a symptom of the bigger issue that lead to oil starvation and failed turbos.

just got mine done for free audi north houston and I had an apr stage 1 tune..they didnt say anything about it 2013 a8 4.0
