(Help) Newbie - Would you buy this 2014 Audi A8?
Hi all!
I own a Jeep SRT and am thinking of selling/trading it for an Audi A8. I'm interested in this car, which is a 2014 A8 3.0T w/ 42k miles, priced at $25k.
However, I looked at the Carfax, noticed it was a lease and thought - great, it'll at least be well maintained. However, I, unfortunately only found 1 service record in Carfax through the 42k miles.
Would you buy this car? If so, what price, and would you anticipate issues given mileage ?

I think leases are generally less maintained then owned vehicles. The general entailing of a leaser is that they will only have the car for 3 years and so they only need it to last 3 years. Small chips, stains, tears, prolonged oil changes all come with the territory.

Not all service shops report to Carfax. My local Audi dealer doesn't. I had my S8's fuel pump replaced (4/2018), couple of oil changes, fuel filter change and battery replaced by them. The services are not list on the S8's Carfax. However, I had new DWS put on by a small tire shop and they reported it. Go figure.
Good luck with your decision.

In looking at purchasing a lease turn-in, I specifically look for low or ultra-low mileage cars. I purchased my 2015 A8 in 2018 with 18,000 miles and full service records.
To answer your question, it would depend on how many miles you plan to pile on the 'ol girl. If you drive 20k a year, you'll have a car at 100k in three years. Lastly, does the A8 have the options you need/want? From the pics I couldn't tell if it has Drivers Assist or the Top View camera system, two highly desirable options.
If you purchase, welcome aboard! It's a fantastic car!

I would not trust Carfax. 3 of my previous cars had accidents, which never been reported to Carfax. The best source of leased car's history would be the dealer's computer. Just go to your local Audi dealer with this car's VIN# and ask them to see/print the history. Majority of Audis, especially A8s leased with Audi care package, which includes maintenance up to 45k miles.
42K miles is nothing for theses cars, but I would strongly suggest to buy a car, which still has original factory warranty for at least 4-6 months. This way you'll be protected from any kind of surprises for the first time and you'll have an option to buy extended warranty (if you need one) for much less than when the car's original warranty expired.

Didn't all 2013+ D4's get top down cameras?

This car is actually quite an oddity; it’s an A8, not an A8L! Rare vehicle and definitely doesn’t have driver assistance package or overhead cameras. It could still be a good car to own but would have it checked out by a local Audi dealer as someone suggested.
