I wish our cars came with this. I had posted on another forum that when i puchased my car in sept last year it had this awesome cherry scent which is still in the car after 6 months, just not that strong. I couldnt find any air fresheners and i even asked the dealer about it. They didnt know and just said the car came that way. I thought maybe the car had an ionizer but after researching realized that was only an option on the newer cars. I therefore think some detailer shampooed the carpets with some awesome cherry fragrance shampoo which has lasted for months. If anyone knows of such a product, let me know.

I'm not asking permission. I'm first checking if it makes sense for me to spend a lot of extra time writing a guide for all of you guys on my free time if no one is really interested.

So basically I wanted to retrofit a cabin ionizer as available in some of our A8 D4.
I'm not going to debate on its efficiency, but I see quite a lot of new high end models (Mercedes / BMW / LR / Jag ...) coming with this as an option for air purification.
This is NOT an air scent diffuser at all, like the one you can find in the new D5 model, the cartridges being located under the driver side of the dashboard.
(I wish our cars would come with this option too)
Please be aware that you need the rear climate control unit (unit 28) for this to work!
You will need several hours if you want to make it professional looking.
You will have to remove the passenger B pillar (bottom), the passenger rear sill and bench or central rear console.
There is nothing difficult when you know what to do...
It took me 7 hours to complete but I went through many unnecessary steps part on my trial and errors exercise.
I will show you the cleanest way to do it.
You might be able to achieve it in less than 3h.

Air ionization system :
- 4H0963459 Ionizer module (shared part between A6L / A8 / Q7)
- 4H0963566-5PR Ionizer button
- 4H4868386 (6PS for black) (DF3 for mokka braun) I took both as I didn't know if the brown color would match or not my interior, but it should as the reference is the same.
- 4D0971636 6 pins flat black connector housing. I took 8W0971636D as shown on etka superseding 4D0971636. It was a mistake!
- 000979009E 5x MQS Quadlock terminal 0,5mm˛ Fakra MOST for 4D0971636
- 4H0973713 6 pins round connector housing
- to be defined --- 6 x Terminal for 4H0973713
- Wires !!! Different colors would be ideal so you won't make any mistake when it comes to connect everything together.
- VCDS / OBD11 to code the unit 28 rear climate control unit.
