Excited back to be in the VW/Audi scene.

I want to activate VIM for the kiddos and try other software mods, whats the correct cable? $200 variant— ross tech VCDS HEX-V2 Enthusiast ?

Looking for the cheapest way of getting this activated.

I would look closely at OBDeleven, as long as you have some android device (or are willing to buy a cheap one) to control/interface with it.

That I am not able to answer, pretty much no matter how new it is, it's going to be out of date. I use Waze for day to day and also use Maps.me for anywhere where I might not have cell signal. I just have a phone holder that is in my CD slot, this I find is the perfect spot for me to use the phone screen for navigation.

The latest is maps are NAR 6.18.2 Yours appear to be never updated from 2012.

Here's what I've done so far-
-ordered truphone.com pre-paid SIM (awaiting delivery)-- loaded it with $30, we'll see how long that lasts. Google Satellite imagery is neat, why not.
-will follow this post to update Navigation via SD card, once I can link the car to myAudi Connect account (need to verify PIN which apparently requires car to have SIM connection)
-ordered ross tech vagcom "HEX-V2 Enthusiast" -- wanting to do a few software mods, needle sweep, video in motion, and a few others from this guide. Also going to be handy later down the road for obvious reasons.

Depending on how quickly the SD cards reads media, I'm considering upgrading the internal jukebox hdd to a 256gb PATA SSD, there's a few companies that make new drives. Would be neat to transfer my music collection over (<30gb), and a music video collection (<50gb). With iPhones having 256gb of storage now, it doesn't really make sense to transfer music to the internal hdd, since bluetooth will be more streamlined.

Has anyone hacked MMI to do screen mirroring from iOS? Now that would be neat.

That won't work with your version of MMI, since the tech is different on yours vs the newer gen Q5.

I was referring to updating your maps in the manner you'd indicated... See the bolder text. I have no comment on the Tru phone sim
