MMI booting time
I'm already 2-3 minutes into my drive before I can change the radio station or switch the Sirius.
I love the technology and the interface overall, but the slow MMI boot time is enough of an annoyance to register on my complaint radar.
Aftermarket systems for other cars, like Kenwood or Alpine, do take this long for their start up boot, but it seems to me that the OEM should just be faster.
Am I being unreasonable?
Most of the time I'm backed out of the garage before the RVC is initialized.
Usually I'm too busy with neighborhood traffic, speed humps, and security gates to notice.
BUT it drives me crazy that I can't use SDS to input an address for navigation while I'm starting out.
Just yesterday The Beach Boys "Kokomo" on the iPod was not what I wanted at 8AM either so had to mute....
Am hopeful there is an update soon and will ask when I go in for the first service.
Either way in the here and now what you can do is hit the door unlock button in your car from as far away as possible, or if its the morning just unlock your door on your car (assuming its in secure place like a garage) what will happen is the MMI system will start loading its self up so when you do actually turn the car on its closer or at the ready to go state. The mmi system will run quietly for about 6-8 minutes if you don't get into your car at that point it will shut back down.
Also what year is your car? I know the MMI in my B8 S4 boots pretty quick, I am wondering if its a bigger problem with the latest MMI that has google maps cellular capabilities etc.
From what I can tell, the longest time spent during boot is finding the cell signal, handshaking with a web service or two, and reading the address book from my iPhone (bluetooth connected). The MMI seems to go through these steps sequentially, but that's just based on observation.
Keep in mind that it only goes through the long boot steps when the car has been turned off for greater than 30 minutes or so. It stays active for around 30 minutes in case you're just briefly running in the store or something.
