MMI Update/Upgrade?
I have a loaner this week, a 2016 A7, and noticed some differences with the MMI interface. Like the radio showing the station logo, or streaming music showing the album art. The NAV taking in the street address first as opposed to last. What I am wondering is there a update/upgrade to the MMI firmware that will at least give me some of, what I see as improvements to my 2013 A8's MMI. Also, I have the data plan enabled in the car and I am using the Google maps, mainly because its freaking cool, but was wondering if in using the Google maps is it using the updated maps or is it an overlay on top of the what I am guessing is the 2012 maps that came with the car if the previous owner didn't spring for the new maps at some point.

I have a 2016 Audi A7 and a 2012 Audi A8L and the features are more in the A7 and the A7 also has 3D google maps with subscription and traffic which is amazing along with the radio station album arts etc. You cannot upgrade the MMI on the A8 to this unfortunately.

I found this site on and they seem to have done some of this stuff, was hoping someone on here has done some of these upgrades. A8 4H, S8 4H - 2010-2013 and here is there youtube page https://www.youtube.com/user/HazzyDayz101

Google maps is an overlay on top of whatever map set is in there. It is not a back door way to get a Nav update. Traffic for Audi Connect actually pulls from Sirius (called "Traffic Subscription").
I have the album art on the 2013 Q5 where I had to get exactly the right cable. I got a Lightning one for the S8 that showed up last night from my online dealer order, and will see if that tweaks anything. Going in now from 30 pin via Apple Lightining adapter to a Lightning era iTouch so that definitely won't pull album art.

Answer on the album art. New cable--the "yellow" one for the D4. My 2013 Q5 is a different color and does the same thing--once I got the upgraded one. See below when I just tried plugging in the D4 yellow one.

Cool, but I am actually talking about using the bluetooth to stream. In the 2016 it shows the album art. It also says it when your playing the radio.

No go on my 2015 S8. Tried it with same device a I did with the yellow Lightning cable that does support cover art. The track info is in there even with the prior cable. No cover art or detailed track info via Bluetooth.
You really don't want to Bluetooth (A2DP) into the AMI anyway on a long term basis. A fair amount of fidelity loss relative to either CD's or high bit rate copies into a device. Blutoothing in is another variant of low bit rate. Drains device battery too. Leave phone in car a few times and it gets old (BTDT in past), let alone risk of car break in with exposed devices.
I would (and do) just use a dedicated slave device and sync it back to iTunes if that is where your music library is. Then you can go high bit rate and use the newer cable if you get a 5S era device or later iTouch w/ Lightning. Lots of used and forgotten devices that still function stuck in folks' drawers, handed down to kids, etc. Doesn't matter if screen is cracked or other cosmetics for that matter; just needs to run and be connectable for synching.

I went and spent $80 on a cable to find out my phone isn't supported!!!!! I wonder if this upgrade would help that or it may be cheaper to get a new phone. Currently I have a Sony Xperia Z3.

Just get an old (out of service) iPhone or iTouch or whatever and put your music on that. Or obsolete Android equivalent if that's your cup of tea. Then just stays w/ car. Most parents (and kids) probably have a quasi drawer full of them by now, or on eBay. 32G gets you well past 2000 songs/couple hundred albums at high bit rate, and 32G's aren't hard to find. W/out pics and other apps on a dedicated device, 90% of memory then goes just to tunes. Or, get the SD card slots mastered--something I need to do myself...

I like to listen to audiobooks when I drive. Audio quality isn't a big deal so bluetooth is best for that. Unfortunately my D3 doesn't have A2DP so I'm out of luck until I get around to installing a Dension (no AMI either).
Doesn't MMI 3g support a usb drive? A 64gb usb drive is less than $20 and would hold a lot of music. SD card is only about $5 more. I believe it even supports FLAC.
