It is truly breathtaking in my A8 and I bet it's even better in the S.
Wait a minute... A8's have launch control??

Yes. If I recall, it needs to be in dynamic, transmission in sport, and esp off. Hold brake firmly, and press gas pedal to the floor. Release brake and hold on tight. Before you try it, though, it'd be best if someone else would confirm I remember that right, I haven't done it for quite some time. Even in my 4.2, it made it stunningly quick off the line.

I don't think I've tried all those steps. I think I had it in dynamic and braking guard off. I can't remember if I had the trans in sport. But I didn't wanna sit there and chew up the drivetrain trying to find out lol

Yes, as outlined. Apparently no counter either such as on S6's. And doesn't take 5 minutes and an instruction manual like the old Clarkson clip for M5.

Yup doesn't work. And after a terrifying grinding noise which seemed to last an eternity and then some I'm fairly confident I need to get rid of the car.

Grinding noise? That's no good...

If the brake is not pressed enough, it will not work. I should also note that the few times I did it, I did not hold it any longer than it took for the revs to come up, I probably only held the gas and brake together for about a second.

I did it today at going from a highway rest stop with a 1/2 mile long strip to rejoin the highway -

ECS off
Dynamic Mode
Transmission in S mode
Left foot on brake
Right foot on Accelerator

You will see message "brake guard off" and as revs build it will stop and hold, release brake and take off....amazing.

Mine was a 2011. Even the less powerful 4.2 takes off hard enough to shame some serious sports cars. Very few can touch it off the line. Now, the follow through is entirely dependent on your motor. The 4.0t should take off like the proverbial bat out of hell.
