Default Rust?

Got a little stone chip on one of my front doors and it's gone a wee bit brown. I'll likely get if fixed when the weather gets better but just wondering if the browning (car is black) is rusting? Thought the car was all aluminium body.

Only piece of steel in that area is the B pillar, one of the few on the car body shell. All body outer sheet metal is aluminum. They changed the B pillar on D4 to steel for increased side crash protection and maybe rollover roof strength.

On D3's the trim pieces to the door, particularly the lower "wing" ones, had steel reinforcing plates inside of the plastic that could corrode and lead the strips to deform slightly. Had it on my D3 W12. Not sure on D4 for those, but a hunch (since there was a D3 TSB) on D4 is they got rid of that. Plus the add on trim pieces are smaller in general on D4. But again, door sheet metal all aluminum.

If in doubt, there also is always a...magnet.

OMG... I took my daughter to an Ohio State football game one year, and she bought a OSU magnet for the car. Upon returning to the car after the game, she was so-o-oo excited to put it on the car, but it wouldn't stick and it kept falling off... it took me a moment to remember it was never going to stick!

Never buy a hide-a-key magnet box for an A8/S8 either!
