S8 vs A8L 4.0T
Looking for a power upgrade to my 3.0T in the CPO market - 2015 or 2016. In most cases I'm seeing S8's priced about 10,000 or so higher than A8L's. Comparing 15 S8 to '16 A8L's. In your opinion, is the S8 with the extra $$ or is the 450HP good enough?

Against anything in your history I see, likely 4.0T is plenty. I can't use what S8 has now stock 99% of time in my congested suburban traffic situation. But also compare it options to options to be sure its a fair/straight comparo.
As you even mention by model name (A8L), you gotta sort the SWB vs LWB question too. That's a basic fork in the road when you get the newest ones where there is no SWB in a 4.0T.

Its apples to oranges but i will say that IMO the S6 is the best in its class, perhaps the best value on the market. Its not as elegant as the A8 interior though. You would have to decide what your preference is and make sure you drive the S6 (if you havent already) to see the difference in quickness and handling.

I agree with GR8 about the S6. I test drove a new 2016 S6 and I really liked it's "feel" on back roads. I was pulled in the direction of the S6 after Audi dropped the SWB model for the D4. The specs re WB, length and weight of the S6 are close to the specs on my SWB D3, which I love. Also, the S6 has the sport air suspension, which puts it on relatively even terms with the D4 from a suspension standpoint, and it has the 4.0t engine; a pretty darn good package. The price is, indeed, good.
However, I have been spoiled by the luxury of the A8, so I don't know if I would be completely satisfied with a S6. Mike

I'll have to provide my feedback if this is true. . One thing about AUDI is they do listen to their customers if enough feedback is offered

So they are only producing the LWB for the D4? I hope they change that for the D5. The LWB is just too big of a car for me. One time they gave me an A8L as a Loaner and I told them Id rat have an A6 if it was available (and I would have taken an A4)

It has more to do with what I have driven in the past. MY Lex LS460 was 198 inches. The 2013 A8 LWB was 207 inches. That's a huge adjustment and I just didnt like it. Just way too big of a car for me
When I drove a NWB (202 inches) it was closer to the size of the LS460 than the A8 LWB and I saw it right away. Still, If I wanted an A8 I was gong to have to accept a slightly bigger car than the LS460. But the LWB was just too much.
I am glad they offered the NWB.
