Default Thinking about 2018 M550i Xdrive:

I put an order in for M550i, and currently waiting for my dealer to get allocation. What do you guys think about this car?

Nice, but I'd rather have an S8.

Hope for your sake its more reliable than the 2011 550 X-Drive M-Sport I had prior to my A8.

Loved the car other than the reliability of it.

I feel the D4 to D4 move is not worth it for me. The tech on the D4 is already getting dated. This generation of 5 series will have the newest 2017 tech that should be good for some years to come. I also want to sit in something different. I have car ADD. Everyone seems to think that this M550 has potential, I hope they are right.

Lastly, if I get it new I can lease and write off the payment in their entirety. Audi does not lease well in general, and buying/leasing a new D4 S8 now is a bad financial move.

BMW's reliability is just average or below. They are also a dime a dozen but if you like the vehicle I say go for what makes you happy. Who cares what others think.

Any new car is a bad financial move. I'd wait to see what bags of tricks the D5 will have. Should fall between the regular 4.0t and non plus S8 in terms of performance, and tech should be absolutely top tier. I'm certain the M550i is an excellent car, but a different goal than the D4 or D5, so if you're looking to compare it to one, I don't think it's fair to either car. If that's the kind of car you want, I'm sure you'll love it.

Not any and not always. I'll be saving at least my current tax rate % of the lease after tax savings. The car that has a strong residual value (most BMW) combined with a high individual tax rate can come out to very respectable (low) after tax payments.

IFF you've been a BMW CCA member for awhile.

The 7xx and Alpinas get more, $1500 I think.

Default Put it this way: My E46 M3 has had less $$ problems than two C5 audis.

Sure, maybe the new ones are better, but ???
The 2K4.2A6Q had a new trans at 32K miles and multiple recalls. TB service every so often (chains, people?), new shocks at 107K, at least one return to dealer for new thermostat (another TB service since it flunked 11K after the TB service, no warranty). It went through at least two oil cooler transfer tube replacements, ended up with the aluminum billet one. Brakes every 30K miles...the HP2 caliper/pads simply undersized for the car weight. Or wifey rides brake pedal...naah. She just has lots of in town traffic.

The 02 S6 ended up with a used engine under Audi platinum aftermarket warranty, thank god. Also had issues with the engine ECU (replaced under that platinum warranty) and multiple various other module issues. Paradoxically, the HP2 calipers/pads on the S6 last much longer. Hawk HP FTW.

Perhaps the C6 if not D4 and so on are better. I'm in love with the S8+ and just keeping my options and eyes open. RS7 possibly, but I like the S8+ mo bettah.

We have a 2015 A5 and a 2017 A3, no problems other than one recall on the A5 for a climate control? or aux coolant pump or some such.

The E46 M3 vert had connecting rod bearing inserts replaced twice under warranty, bad batches, no engine problems. Both door window regulators replaced under warranty. I think there was one leaking oil cooler or power steering hose replaced my cost. 103K and still screaming to 8K rpm redline. Dinan stuff too.

Default I'll believe the sub-4sec 0-60 when I see it.

475hp probably not enough. Although BMW has been known to under rate their motors.
