Video In Motion - Unlocked!
Just thought I would share my excitement.
Buddy of mine used his old *** Audi service tool to unlock the VIM on my 2012 A8L... took him all of 4 minutes. Wonder what other cool **** he could do... lol.
My 4 year old son is thrilled.

I see this mod mentioned all the time in these forums. In my neck of the woods, there's a pretty stiff fine (and points) if any video is visible to the driver when a vehicle is in motion. Isn't there similar legislation in other parts of the world?

Congratulations! That is one of the most popular mods I usually make for other owners. The other 2 most popular are the "Needle Sweep" & "Comfort Access Windows"
PM me your email and I can email you a list of the possible mods.

Needle Sweep // Video In Motion // Comfort Access Windows // D & S Gear Display // Front Amber Delete // Lap Timer // Adaptive Brake Lights
Are they outlined somewhere that I can read about them?

VAG = Volkswagen AG, of which Audi is a part of.
Throughout these forms you will see references to VAG COM or VAG Mods.
These are software mods that can be done to the car enabling features that Audi has built into the car but has turned on/off for various markets.
And it is all done using this cable: http://store.ross-tech.com/shop/VCHUC.html

As it says in my Signature, they are "VAG Mods"

I actually have a Vag-Com. I bought it a while back for my 2005, anticipating that I'd need it at some point but never found the time to deal with it. As I am planning on getting a 2014 A8, I was curious what those mods are and what they do. When I follow the link to the ross-tech store there is no description of what these mods do. I would be interested in hearing (or being sent to a link where I can read) about what they specifically do. For example: "needle sweep"?!? what could that mean? I'm puzzled.

Hi navin-
It took me a while to figure all these out at first too, so I'll be glad to explain them for you and others who might find this useful:
Needle Sweep - when you turn the vehicle on the gauges all "self test" and run the needle to the max, then go back to zero
Video In Motion - let's your passenger watch movies on MMI while in motion
Comfort Access Windows - if you hold the unlock button on the remote the windows and sunroof all open
D & S Gear Display - think this means you can see the gear you are in even in D mode, not just with paddles
Front Amber Delete - some people like it better when the LED headlights don't turn amber when the turn signal is on
[highly questionable safety and legality, but we're not here to debate that]
Lap Timer - something to do with stopwatch like timing for racing
Adaptive Brake Lights - if you mash the brakes real hard in an emergency maneuver they blink to warn those behind you
xradman posted a great thread here for some D4 mods https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...&highlight=vag
Many of the websites on the internet are geared toward A4 and most of those codings will not work on the D4.
Proceed with caution, and don't hesitate to ask here as you get familiar with VCDS. -Jake
