Default Adaptive Cruise Control Symbol in HUD Question

I just got this A8 last Friday night and took it for a Shakedown Cruise this weekend. Seems like all is good. I have a question though. On my HUD, I have this symbol which is, as I understand, tells you Adaptive Cruise Control is on. Fair enough.

That said, on the symbol attached, it should be all green like the picture. What I have is all green except the two top quadrants are red dashes. Can someone explain it to me? This is my first encounter with an Audi so please be gentle on an Audi Virgin? TIA.

I don't think any of us recognize what you're describing. Maybe post a picture?

The green symbol comes on when the car is maintaining the set speed in ACC. Maybe it goes red when it's accelerating or decelerating to meet it, or when your set speed exceeds the speedlimit more than the margin you've selected. But I don't think Ive ever seen it go partially red.

Not sure how to do it. Can you take a picture of a HUD image? Best way I can describe it is that there are 2 red dashes instead of 6 green. Basically, it is 2 green dashes, 2 red dashes and 2 green dashes.

That happens when I engage the cruise control regardless of acceleration or deceleration or just maintaining. Tomorrow I will try to make sure it is set to under speed limit to see. Thanks

It's explained in your owner's manual. It indicates that the set speed and the speed limit are not the same. Only if you have predictive control activated, because then it may decide to lower the speed due to upcoming situations such as intersections etc. So it's letting you know that it's currently driving slower than the speed limit. .

This explains why I've never seen it. I've never set ACC to below the speed limit . I've also turned off predictive control, hate it when the car slows down before I want it to.

The red indicator works in either direction: above or below the limit.

Bingo. That was the answer. That was what was confusing me. I was up and down but never spot on so I suspected a bad sensor and was trying to track it. TIA to all.
