Default 1995 A6 overheat lamp, but not true

Went to work the other day and on the way my Multi-function display started showing an overheat condition, however that was not the case. The gauge always reads (I believe) lower that is should read. It never goes higher than 1/4 over from cold. Is this the water temp sender switch?

Default is it showing a overheat warning? or is the gauge showing very high?

I just fixed an overheat warning that would come on regardless. It was the tempature sensor, it also disabled my A/C due to thinking the engine was overheating. Cost me $250 parts & labor.

It is showing the overheat warning, however the gauge is normal, actually a little cooler than normal. Does that water temp sender also control the gauge on the dash?

Default same symptoms as me...

does your AC work?

I beleave the water temp sender and the tempature sensor are different. Thus why you have a warning, yet a low reading on your gauge.

Probably need to replace the temp sensor

Default Passenger side rear sensor in coolant pipe is the thermal sensor switch. You will need to remove the

IAC valve to get to it. The driver side rear sensor in the coolant pipe is the engine coolant temperature sensor.
