93 csq auto transmission help needed
I am hoping someone out there may have a clue about my transmission issue in a 1993 Audi 100 CS quattro, V6 w/4 spd Auto.
From a standing start w/the shifter in D, the vech starts out fine in first then when you think it should go into second gear it goes right to 4 gear (converter lockup) with a horrible bang followed by engine lugging until you get up to a decent speed and drives fine at the higher speeds.
When this bang occurs all the gear,PRND321, in the gear selector lcd light up. It does not matter if you start out in D,3 or 2 gear, it does the same thing. (My shifter wont go all the way down to "1" gear) The converter stays locked until the you turn the key off, even if you come to a light in "N", if you put it back in drive it will stall from being in lockup mode and wont let go till the power is shut off with the key.
I have power going to the TCM at pin 1 and 39, all fuses are good and if I disconnect the TCM alltogether it stays in second gear all the time (limp mode ?) I just bought this car (my 4th Audi) knowing the trans was.....malfuntioning...and it is real sharp looking car and hope I can more miles on it.
Thanks in advance to all that read this and to all that reply with anything I may be able to try.
Anyone know how to retrieve the failure codes with out exspensive equipment. Great Day to All...Chris

You can use VAG-COM software (from Ross Tech) in place of the VAG-1551 to retrieve codes, but ...
you will need a PC or a Laptop for the software. The VAG-COM price starts @ $199. Have no other ideas to help you solve your tranny problem.
