95 A6 auto Transmission shutter
Place the car in drive, 3, 2 or 1st, attempt accelaerate by depressing the gas and the whole car shutters...the drive train actually shakes, the car contues to shutter while moving forward. Works fine in reverse. Can't get the car up to speed because it will not even creep along!
It's in the shop and awaiting a verdict. Transmission fuild change last month, problem now....any suggestions?

Re: Sounds bad whatever it is.
Your right sounds bad. Speaking with my mechanic this morning, looks like the transmission must come out to start with something internal to the transmission has physically let go.....joy o joy

Re: Which Transmission to choose?
salvage folks have a
1) 95 auto transmission with 72,000 kilometers
2) 97 auto transmission with 91,000 kilometers
Which would you choose?

Re: Which Transmission to choose?
Normally the one with lower miles if there was now MAJOR upgards in the following years. If the salvage yard is close I would look for the following:
Leaks
Condition of car removed from
color of fluid
any maintenance records
Other than any info to help you it's a crap shoot. Boy have relatively low miles; 45K miles and 56K miles.
I don't need a trans, but where are you getting on from??
Good luck
Jon

Re: could be you've a leak transmission oil cooler (yr previous post)?
Yes good point. That was repaired with a new rad. I did have transmission fluid in the coolant. However it appears when we drained the transmisssion and dropped the pan there was no evidence of coolant in the transmission fluid. Tran fluid was nice and pink and the pan was reasonably clean. Then out of blue this happened!

Re: Which Transmission to choose?
I found these two in Quebec and I am located in Halifax Nova Scotia...so I'll have to take my pick and have it shipped. At least they offer 30 day warranty however the amount of labour required to put it in and out almost negates the value of the tranny.
