Anyone know where to find the transmission breather hose?

Agreed on your observation about the "new breather".....
I'm going to try and tackle this once and for all this weekend. Get that thing out, clean it and check the fluid level.

Is it constant until the tranny is warm?
What exactly does this noise sound like anyway, and how loud would you say it was?
My car makes a slight rattle, but I thought it was the valves.
Any sound clips?

Great work DH and nice picture. Did you get at it the same way I did? I didn't have a lot of time
to try and get it off, but from what I can tell, it doesn't just pull out. So if you figure it out let us know for sure. Good luck. And document everything with pictures if you can.

I've got one that I swear looks exactly like that on a 1999 A4 core trans in my garage
I'll mess with it tonight or tomorrow morning and see if I can figure anything out.

Here's another photo of it, gleaned from one of Kday's photos, I believe
marked up by me.

Bingo! Now the trick is to get the top off the breather tube and clean it out.
Any ideas? Not sure how it's supposed to come off. The Bentley pages you sent over previously don't really describe how to remove the cap. It looks like it might just have some sort of press fit or tabs that bent down around the top of the breather tube.
Heading out now to give this a go.

I was thinking that it might be prudent to open/crack the fill plug to prevent
overpressuring any of the seals. That compressed air has to go somewhere. I'd probably open both the ATF and the final drive plugs if they didn't leak too much. I'd probably even just jack up the passenger side of the car to keep the fluid level away from the plugs.
