Default Audi 100 Quetion (Dan, and all you other A100 guys HELP!)

Hey Everyone,

Well the problem came back. The stopping and dieing problem resurfaced this weekend. If you all dont know what I'm talking about recently I had a problem that the car would perodically die for no reason. But I could always shift it into park, and start it back up again. If you all remember, Dan, you said to look for any strange noises. Well I heard rattles comming from the back of the car. Turned out it was the Cat. Converter. So Friday we had that replaced, spark plugs replaced, and a few other things here and there. The Rattle were gone, and the car was running overall better. But the dieing problem came back again, I was sure we solved it, but now I'm stumped. Anyone else have any ideas or experience? Dan you said to check some of the ignition stuff what were they again? Could this be an electrical problem? Could this also be somehow related to when I'm braking or turning(steering) it seems like that's when it does it but maybe it's just me. I dont think it's ever happened going down the highway at a constant speed, so I'm not sure what to think right now. Thanks everyone in advance for your input and help, we all appreciate it. Oh yeah for you guys Im using a different engine Inline-5, I have a 1990 Audi 100. Not usin the V6, but I thought I'd ask you guys your opinions anyway. Thanks

Default Audi 100 Q-

Have you checked to see how old your fuel filter is? A fuel filter on its last legs will act the same as a bad fuel pump, or a faulty fuel pump relay (in the aspect that the car will periodically die). Without looking at it, it's my best guess. If it occurs while you have your wheel cranked all the way to either right or left side, and you are at a stand still, then perhaps you have a power problem, such as a dieing alternator.

Default Fuel Pump Relay

We changed the Fuel Pump during the summer, not sure about Fuel Pump Replay. Is there any way to check?

Not a good way!! If the car ever dies and won't restart...jumping across this is about the only test

I had a similar problem, the car would cut out when I slowed quickly but it would always start again. Went to my local breakers yard who had a 100 like mine and got the ISV + pipe for £3. Cleaned it with 1/2 can of carb cleaner - problem solved!
