Default Auto-2-Manual Swap... Day 2

Found a few hours today to work on my Avant a bit. Found out my replacement tranny (CAD) will not be here until Friday. It was raining today so I decided to pull apart the auto bits in the interior.

Got the shift lever and housing out along with a bunch of the center console. This should make it easier to transfer over the manual lever and linkage assembly. Also found and confirmed with ETOS that the tray the lever mounts in is different between the auto and the manual. I will likely pull the shift lever assembly from a 90 at a local wrecking yard and fabricate my own brackets for it. Hopefully the cable for the ignition switch lock doesn't cause any problems.

The auto stuff in the cargo area. It's already nice having an Avant, I can keep the parts I take off of it in the back rather than stacking them in my already crowded garage.

Got the car all up on jacks with ramps and chocks in place for safety. Tomorrow, rain or shine, I'll pull the old tranny out.

To Do list:
Buy front axles, hope they except the auto ones as cores.
Recieve tranny, flywheel, pedals.
Find out if prop shaft will work with manual tranny.
More than I can think of right now.

Cool, maybe some day, we'll see how the auto treats me. New, Used, Refab?

Wouldn't it be better (safer) to just push the car all the way in the ramps Mousie?

Default You can secure the ignition switch cable with a wire tide.

That's what I did when I converted my 97' A8 auto to a 6 speed manual. You also need to find the two wires from your automatic transmission range switch for the park neutral safety switch and connect it to the clutch pedal switch.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/105016.phtml</a

Default Yes, the CAD tranny has the same 3.89 ratio as the CEZ I'm removing.

Confirmed via Bentley as well as a call to German Transaxle of America in Bend, OR.

Don't forget to fit a new rear crankshaft oil seal while the flywheel is out of the way!

I think he's just using the ramps as wheel chocks (sp?)
